Assessable Capital Gain

The portion of a capital gain on selling a property or investment that is not covered by an exemption (such as the main residence exemption). It is calculated from the sale proceeds less the cost base, after applying any relevant exemptions or apportionment. It is the amount that may then be reduced by the capital gains tax discount (or taxed under the indexed method) before being included in your assessable income.
